Become a Volunteer/Docent at the San Diego Chinese History Museum
The San Diego Chinese History Museum’s Volunteer & Docent Training Program lasts four months. The classes are on Saturdays from 9am to 11:30am, online.
Trainees will study Chinese history, Chinese culture, American history and lifeways of Chinee Americans, with a particular focus on objects represented in the Museum’s permanent collection. Trainees will also receive intensive preparation in touring techniques and strategies to enable them for touring children and adults.
After graduation, each new docent contributes a minimum of 24 docent duty sessions per year. Each docent duty session is three hours. (Average 2 docent duty sessions or 6 hours per month)
Docents are a vital part of the Museum; they lead gallery tours for adults, children, and special interest groups, and give community presentations. The Museum is dedicated to providing visitors of all ages and backgrounds enriching experiences in the galleries and in the community.
